For those of you who know me, you know I'm very passionate about dogs, books, and supporting women. (Also, cats). 

Throughout my career, I've worked (in different capacities and at different organizations) to advocate on behalf of women. Discrimination on the basis of sex, gender identity, race, religious, culture (and on and on) continues to permeate every aspect of our society. That's why I jumped at the opportunity to re-start and manage the Women in Clean Energy initiative at NCSEA.

The goal of WICE is to increase the gender diversity within the clean energy sector and to ensure equal opportunity for all who want cleaner air and a thriving economy. To that end, WICE offers women the opportunity to excel in North Carolina’s clean energy industry by fostering support, camaraderie, and knowledge sharing. I’m proud to say that we have grown our network to over 400 women in less than two years, and this year we launched a mentorship program with 78 participants in the pilot year!

For me personally, WICE represents an opportunity for me to use my skills as an advocate for women’s health and safety to support women in a new way—by helping them as they navigate the predominately male (and white) energy industry. Rather than advocating on behalf of women, with WICE I am working with women in North Carolina’s clean energy industry as they learn to advocate for themselves.

I’m so grateful for NCSEA’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusiveness in all we do, and WICE’s success thus far is due to the whole NCSEA team. But we have so much growing to do! We are fundraising for WICE right now to help us continue and grow our work here in North Carolina and the southeast.

Any amount you’re able to contribute to my campaign will go directly to supporting the creation of our next big project: creating a leadership development program specifically for women in the clean energy industry.

We’ve got a lot to work to do—but I hope we can do it together.
